Past: Lantern Light was born and raised in Canterlot to a single mother, who sadly passed away when he reached the age of 7 due to illness. He was then raised by his grandparents. His grandfather was a well known royal guard in Luna's night guards. Lantern really looked up to his grandfather, and wished to one day be as strong and wise as him. His grandfather taught him everything he now knows about combat, both armed, and unarmed, while his grandmother homeschooled him, since she was a retired school teacher. When he reached the age of 18, he joined the royal guard... but was soon kicked out when they realized he had nightmares, and didn't get a lot of sleep due to them. They were worried he would be a liability, so they did what they thought was right. His grandfather was upset to hear of this, and while he was disappointed in Lantern, he still loved him dearly... unfortunately, since Lantern was kicked out of the royal guard, his grandfather didn't give him the family heirloom, which was a powerful spear, that allowed it's user to cast powerful magic spells... nowhere near as powerful as the princesses' magic, but still powerful in their own right. Because his grandfather couldn't give it to Lantern, he took the spear to a place where nobody dared tread... the Equestria Plaguelands. The place was full of dark creatures, some undead, some large venomous insects, living piles of goo, and all sorts of other nasty monstrosities. It is in the heart of the Plaguelands that his grandfather placed the spear inside the ruins of an old castle that once belonged to their ancestors. He placed three magic seals on the spear, so that no one would be able to take it. One seal was to show courage, which is something that he felt his grandson lacked, and would only break when his grandson would risk his life to save someone else in danger. The second seal was a seal of love, which would only break when he married the mare he was destined to be with. The third and final seal is the seal of heredity. Only when Lantern had proven himself to be worthy of the family name, would this seal break. With the job done, his grandfather returned to Canterlot. He would only tell his wife, and Lantern... but only when the time was right. Soon after moving to Ponyville, Lantern got a letter saying that his grandfather was on his deathbed. When he visited his grandfather, it was then that he learned of the family heirloom, as well as where he had taken it, and the magic seals placed upon it. "I have faith in you... I love you..." were his grandfather's last words, before he passed away. His grandmother died a few months later. Lantern felt very alone after that. His family had all passed away, and he really didn't have any friends... except for a mare in Ponyville by the name of Berry Punch, who he was madly in love with. He lacked the courage to tell her though, as he was afraid she would be revolted, and never speak to him again. He still lives in Ponyville, and has yet to go anywhere near the Plaguelands. He is also currently working as a bouncer for Berry Punch's tavern.
